WHAT DOES MY DREAM MEAN?

Dear Brandon,

I had a dream the other night that I was in gym class and fell when we were running the mile. And then my teeth fell out! Then the school mean girl ran right over me and started laughing! And then EVERYONE started laughing, including my crush (who’s not even in my gym class—he just showed up to laugh!). What does it mean?

From,
Doubtful Dreamer

Hey Doubtful Dreamer,

That sounds like a pretty intense dream! I had a weird dream the other night, and I woke up super confused, too! Want to hear about it?

Okay, so there I was, outside of a medieval stone castle in this weird open field on a sunny day. There were tons of people there, and I was sitting on this throne. Then, suddenly, two princesses approached me on horseback. They were each holding long jousting sticks.

They both looked kind of familiar, especially when I was blinded by an excess of lip gloss and glitter coming from inside one of the princess’s tiaras. Then I realized that the princesses were. . .Nikki and MacKenzie

And THEN, I looked down and saw that I was wearing a court jester costume and a gold mask! The REALLY WEIRD part was that Andre was also there as a court jester, but he was only 8 inches tall. Then, as special gifts, Nikki tossed me a puppy and drumsticks. MacKenzie tossed me a hot pink handkerchief with her phone number on it.

I was sitting there on the throne, watching the two of them battle and then something ELSE happened. You know when people say your legs feel like jelly when you’re nervous? Well, I was feeling really nervous in the dream, and when I looked down, my legs were made of PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY!!!

The sun was so hot that my legs started melting, and then the puppy that Nikki gave me was joined by more puppies! They all ate up the melted peanut butter and jelly.

That’s when Nikki’s puppy looked at me and said:

Then the puppy ran away with my drumsticks, and while I was watching it run away, the crowd cheered! Someone had won the competition! I tried to look up, but the other puppies were tugging at my jester hat.

Before I could see who won, I woke up and my grandma was yanking on my blanket, telling me to get ready because it was time to go to school.

When I got home that day, I did a little research about what dreams mean. I found out that sometimes we take the things going on in our lives (things we’re excited or nervous about, movies we watch, food we eat, people we talk to) and then our imagination turns them into stories while we’re sleeping. Which is kinda cool if you think about it—our brains are pretty amazing.

So if you’re feeling anxious about a test, you might have a dream about failing it. If you’re worried about a crush, you might have a dream about getting rejected. And if you have two girls that might like you, and you play the drums, and you’re around puppies a lot, and you ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich before bed, you might have a dream about . . . well, dueling princesses and jelly legs.

Dreams vary a whole bunch, but I found out that there are some common elements that a lot of people have experienced. Here are some examples:

  • Teeth or Hair falling out: You might be feeling insecure about something or you might have experienced some kind of loss lately.
  • Traveling to a New or Exciting Place: You might be really excited about a new opportunity in your life!
  • Arriving too late: You might have an important appointment in your near future and you want to make sure it goes well.
  • Saving the day: You might be feeling like there’s someone in your life that needs help, and you feel confident that you can do it!

Bottomline, don’t read too much into your dream. It doesn’t mean that your teeth will fall out, or that you’ll get embarrassed in gym class, or that your crush doesn’t like you. It just means that your brain is processing lots of stuff going on in your life. My advice is to talk to your friends or family about your dreams—chances are, they’ll have some super interesting ones to share too!

Hey readers, have you ever had a weird dream? Did any of it make sense when you thought about what was going on in your life? Also, what do you think MY dream means? Let me know in the comments!
